Tom Milne took part in the Professional Pathway (PP) scheme at City, University of London. He now works as a Director (Digital Analytics) at Paramount International.
What made you decide to join the Professional Pathway scheme?
I joined the Professional Pathways scheme as I wanted to be able to support myself financially while studying. I also wanted the opportunity to apply things I was learning in my course in the real world.
What roles did you do whilst on the Professional Pathway scheme?
I worked as a junior web developer, a teaching assistant, and a data analyst for a consultancy company.
How did the scheme help you find work on graduation?
It was hugely helpful – having three years of relevant experience helped get me a number of interviews, and once in front of prospective employers, explaining how PP worked was a great way to demonstrate I was a hard worker.
Describe your career journey since graduation.
I joined Channel 4 and worked in the data team there for six years, before moving to Paramount just over three years ago, where I now manage a small team of analysts. The knowledge, skills and experience I acquired in my studies and through my PP placements are still helping me in my career today.
Are there any lessons you want to share with current Professional Pathway applicants?
One unexpected benefit I found to the PP scheme was the ability to try out a few different roles to help me work out what career I wanted to pursue – so I’d definitely say it’s great to be open minded about the roles that might be available.
Any final message about the Professional Pathway scheme?
The PP scheme is absolutely fantastic and the support I had from the team at City was top notch!
