What made you decide to join the Professional Pathway scheme?
When I discovered the Professional Pathway scheme at City, University of London, I instantly knew it was the ideal choice for me. The opportunity to acquire real-world experience while simultaneously pursuing my degree was both enticing and beneficial.
The PP scheme allowed me to graduate with not only a degree, but also a competitive advantage in the job market due to the hands-on experience I gained. Choosing to join the PP scheme has been one of the best decisions I've ever made.
What roles did you do whilst on the Professional Pathway scheme?
Throughout my time in the PP scheme, I took on various roles. I started as a junior mobile developer, where I honed my coding skills and learned to work effectively within a team.
As I progressed, I transitioned into a mid mobile developer role, further expanding my skill set. In these roles, I was exposed to new concepts such as agile development, various software development life cycles, and different software architectures – experiences that are difficult to replicate in a traditional classroom setting.
Finally, I took on the role of a Software Development Engineer in Test, which allowed me to develop a deep understanding of software quality assurance and testing methodologies.
How did the scheme help you find work on graduation?
The PP scheme not only equipped me with relevant work experience but also helped me establish a robust professional network. Through my various roles, I connected with industry professionals who mentored and guided me throughout my academic and professional journey. Upon graduation, I had a wealth of contacts and a solid reputation, which significantly facilitated my job search.
Describe your career journey since graduation.
Since graduating, my career has been on a rapid upward trajectory, thanks in no small part to the PP scheme. I secured a full-time position as a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET), and within a year, I was promoted and received a substantial salary increase. The experience I gained through the PP scheme has been instrumental in helping me achieve this level of success early in my career.
I also want to point out that all of this happened while I was still in my second year giving me the advantage over everyone else. Now I am a Senior SDET at PrimaryBid.
