About
Overview
After studying Mechanical Engineering at Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) in 1990, Ricky returned several years later to complete a PhD in Aeronautical Engineering on the experimental and numerical aerodynamic analysis of air turbines used in ocean wave energy converters. He then did a post-doc at QUB in overall plant system design and also had a Royal Society visiting fellowship in aero-elastic computational (FEA) blade design at TU Delft. Subsequently, after working abroad for some years, he returned to QUB and became Reader on integrating aerodynamics, Design For Manufacture, cost engineering, digital manufacture for Product Life Management, working very closely with Bombardier Aerospace and Airbus. Ricky's interest in sustainable aviation evolution, Direct Operating Cost, Life Cycle Analysis and operational impact led him to take up a full Professor position and establish the Air Transport and Operations Department at TU Delft in 2008. He also held the prestigious KLM Chair of Engineering and Maintenance for the last 12 years and developed an educational and research program with a view to sustainable integration of airlines, airports and Air Traffic Management (ATM). As the Head of Aviation Management at City, Ricky aims passionately to drive global aviation management and system design integration by the core values of sustainability and reduced environmental impact, efficient and cost effective operations, and safe and secure passenger experience (opening up many areas of scientific collaboration at City).
