About

Overview

Marisa Rodriguez-Carmona is a Lecturer in Optics in the School of Health Sciences at City, University of London. Marisa graduated with first class honours in Physics from Imperial College where she developed a strong interest in Optics and Visual Science. Marisa furthered her interests by joining the Applied Vision Research Centre in 2001 when she began her postgraduate studies in visual science with emphasis on colour vision.

During her PhD Marisa worked with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) UK and Transport for London Ltd. to develop better understanding of variability in chromatic sensitivity within both normal trichromats and subjects with congenital colour vision deficiency. These studies helped to establish minimum colour vision requirements that are specific for pilots and train drivers. Marisa obtained her PhD in 2006, and was then awarded a City University Fellowship to continue with colour-related research studies.

Marisa is a board member of the Colour Group Great Britain. She is involved in postgraduate teaching for Escuela Universitaria de Óptica, Universidad Complutense de Madrid in Spain and gives colour vision courses to occupational health professionals. Marisa has been recently awarded a Fellowship by the Colt Foundation to further her work on the use of colour signals in occupational environments.
