Overview
Dr Iasonas* F. Triantis a Senior Lecturer in Biomedical Engineering and Microelectronics conducting interdisciplinary research in medical devices with a focus on electroceuticals for neural engineering and bioimpedance sensing. His research encompasses the development of targeted diagnostic and therapeutic technology; new sensing methods for point-of-care diagnostics; and empowering patients by improving therapy management. He has worked on technology aimed at spinal cord injury, vagus nerve stimulation, lung and bowel cancer imaging, mental health therapy management, peripheral vascular disease, and wound healing. His research work is documented in more than 70 journal (mostly Q1, with IF up to 16.8) and international conference papers, book chapters and patents. Further to research, his activities have included setting up branded laboratories and award-winning teaching. He has raised approx. £2.8M in income from research grants – including in collaboration with industry - and other funding sources as a PI and a co-I, including from the EPSRC, NiHR and others. He has supervised and co-supervised more than 10 PostDoc and PhD (8 completed) Researchers.
From 2012 he has been with the Research Centre for Biomedical Engineering (RCBE), SST, City, University of London, as a Lecturer and then Senior Lecturer (2014). His activities included various posts of leadership and administration, including being a Programme Director for two MSc courses in Biomedical Engineering - an IPEM accredited terminated programme, and a second one currently in preparation. He is currently the EEE department’s Senior Tutor for Research, supporting all its PhD students. He served as the departmental representative in the School’s Board of Studies as well as the Academic Laboratory Coordinator. He completely re-designed and re-equipped the departmental electronics labs and the RCBE research lab, having raised £400k internally for equipment; furthermore he secured a deal with Keysight for laboratory branding and a £1.2M equipment contribution. He has been shortlisted in the top 3 of both the University’s Academic Impact Awards and President Awards and he has been awarded a departmental annual Teaching Award. He has taught 10 different modules, several as module lead from conception to delivery, ranging from microelectronics and analogue electronics to biomedical instrumentation and introduction to biomedical engineering. Having taught at all levels from years 1-4 UG to MSc, he has achieved excellent evaluation scores of up to 4.9/5. He has peer reviewed a significant number of journal papers for publishers including IEEE and Nature Methods. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE and twice an invited member of IEEE BioCAS technical committee. He has examined 10 PhD vivas (internal / external), including at Imperial College, UCL, Newcastle and Brunel Universities and he has been invited to be external examiner for University of West London’s MSc in Biomedical Eng. and previously for University of East London (UEL) – AKMI Electronic Engineering BEng in Greece. He is in the editorial Board of the MDPI Applied Sciences journal. He has actively collaborated with colleagues from University of Cambridge, Imperial College, University of Surrey, BARTS Hospital, Freiburg IMTEK and UAE Khalifa University amongst others.
He was previously a Senior Research Associate at University College London (UCL) in the Analogue & Biomedical Electronics Group in the EEE dep. (2010-12: Electrical Impedance Tomography); a Research Associate at Imperial College London - Institute of Biomedical Engineering (2005-10: Neuroprostheses); and a Research Assistant at the above group at UCL (2000 -05: Implantable Devices), during which he also completed his PhD in implantable neuroprostheses for spinal cord injury patients. He graduated in 2000 with an MEng in Electronics from the EEE department at University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST).
He was born in Geneva, Switzerland in 1976 and received his basic education in Ioannina, Greece.

Research
