About
Overview
Alim joined the Department of Computer Science at City in 2023. He holds a PhD in Computing from Imperial College London (2022) and bachelor's and master's degree in Software Engineering from the University of Dhaka (2012 and 2014).
Before joining City, Alim was a Research Associate in Cloud Computing at the University of Westminster. He was part of the Centre for Parallel Compuitng (CPC), where he worked in multiple EU funded projects like COVERSATILE and DIGITbrain. In those projects, his works focused on the MiCADO application-level cloud orchestrator. During his PhD program, Alim worked as a Research Assistant in Cloud Monitoring in an industrially funded project INTRA. His role was to develop the prototype of a smart mointoring component for a cloud data centre to reduce its required storage capacity.
Alim worked as a lecturer for three years (2014-2017) at the Institute of Information Technology (IIT), University of Dhaka. At IIT, he has worked closely with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to evaluate the programs offered by the institute. The report produced by the IQAC team guided the insititute to set up their strategic goals for the coming years. He was also a part of the curriculum update committee of IIT that redesigned the syllabus of both the undergrad and postgrad programs. Along with these activities, he was an active memebr of the Distributed Systems and Software Engineering (DSSE) research group.
Alim's primary research focus is on system performance and resource management in particular, resource management of cloud native applications like the microservices. He started working on such issues when he was a member of the DSSE research group at IIT and continued to work on this domain throughout his PhD and time at CPC.
