About City

City and the community

There are plenty of activities, events, facilities and services you can benefit from, even if you're not a student. These include free events, health clinics, legal advice, employment opportunities and state-of-the-art sports facilities. We also offer a range of services for businesses.

Clinics

We offer a wide range of eye care services to the general public including free eye tests, comprehensive eye examinations and access to a range of spectacles at a 20% discount on high street RRP. Alongside a general clinic, City Sight runs a variety of specialist clinics, including those for binocular vision, children, colour vision, contact lenses, specific learning difficulties, spectacles and visual impairment.

Legal advice

Alongside their studies, City, University of London Law students provide a range of services including free, confidential and independent legal advice and clinics on all areas of common law and employment law. Explore our free legal advice services.

Events

City’s leading academics regularly deliver public lectures at City and external speakers range from Nobel Prize winners and Tech City innovators to industry leaders and policy makers. A range of free concerts are also held at City throughout the year, from genres that encompass both the traditional and the experimental. The majority of events are free to attend and open to the general public. Browse all upcoming City events.

CitySport

CitySport, City's sports and fitness centre, aims to provide a sporting hub for local people alongside students and staff at City. Find the membership option that suits you.

Community gardening club

Students, staff and local residents are welcomed to join the community gardening club. Free gardening sessions are held on a regular basis in Northampton Square and other sites across Islington. This is a joint initiative between City, Islington Council, St Luke's Community Centre and local residents and aims to bring together the local community to improve the green space in the City. No experience is necessary and all tools are provided. Contact the team for more details and to register interest.
