Maritime labour has been my main research subject since 1998. This includes women seafarers, seafarers on cruise ships, the labour market for seafarers especially that in China and in the Philippines, the political commissar and seafarers welfare in the PRC merchant fleet, seafarers family life, the institutional and technical change and their impact to the crew and communication on multinational crewed ships. I also have a strong interest in the social and economic transformation in China and its implications to the Chinese workers in shipping but also in other industries.
