Centre for Information Leadership
The Centre for Information Leadership at City University London addresses the need of today's Chief Information Officers and other senior information professionals to become 'information leaders': developing ever broader skills in delivering transformational and innovative information services in enterprises, government and society.
We will offer a truly independent and authoritative centre of excellence to support the information professions, particularly in the context of the information leader's growing role in business and policy making.

The objective of the Centre is to lead the education and research agenda underpinning information leadership, with focus on two areas:
- We will develop information leaders of the future by relevant education provision. The Centre will ensure that aspiring information leaders are not only effective, but also can lead the debates that will shape the future information society.
- We will conduct independent research and policy work to support information leaders and the sectors they serve in both industry and government. This will not only focus on the business-technology interface, but also wider legal and social concerns.
Our approach is interdisciplinary. We will harness expertise across City University London to address issues that are of concern to information leaders, thus contributing to and leading the national debates in the information society. The schools involved in the Centre are:
We believe that the hard-won knowledge and insights of the present generation of information leaders needs to be distilled and passed on to the next generation of leaders. We will publicise research that will be accessible to a wider audience through writing articles and holding events.
The Centre bridges the divide between academia and the professions through fostering dialogue between City's internationally recognised researchers, information practitioners and the wider public. We will provide a neutral space for debate, and provide a voice and profile for the information leadership community.
An external panel of information leaders ensures that the Centre meets the needs of its external stakeholders, alongside its Director, David Chan, who is an experienced information leader.
We believe this engagement is essential to realising the transformational possibilities of the information age. These possibilities are not only restricted to step-changes in business effectiveness but also in the wider culture we experience in society.
