Eligibility

  • First or second-class honours degree or equivalent in an appropriate subject
  • The Licentiate Diploma of the Royal college of Speech and Language Therapists is also accepted.

English Requirements

For those students whose first language is not English one of the
following qualifications is also required:

  • IELTS: 6.5
  • TOEFL (internet-based): 100

What will I learn?

The module will enable you to:

  • Demonstrate an advanced knowledge of conceptual frameworks of intervention for the chosen client group
  • Demonstrate an advanced knowledge of the range of intervention approaches, including assessment and therapy activities, and the different contexts in which they are used
  • Demonstrate an advanced knowledge of the components within the cycle of intervention and associated levels of decision-making in the planning and implementation of assessment and therapy activities
  • Critically analyse a range of information from various sources for clinical decision making and planning intervention
  • Demonstrate an advanced level of conceptual understanding that allows for selection of appropriate methods for maximising client progress
  • Demonstrate self-direction and originality in problem solving clinically related issues
  • Self evaluate theoretical knowledge and clinical skills, identifying strengths, difficulties and needs with suggesting goals for future attainment.

Teaching and Assessment

Mode of delivery
Teaching methods for the module would be such that there would be no didactic teaching. You will be presented with a clinical case which you have chosen to manage through a term. The module is supported by an introductory lecture, followed by two tutorials throughout the term per clinical case.

Assessment
Assessment consist of a written 3000 word case report of the client to include assessment results and recommendations, therapeutic approaches with rationale, and options for carry over / follow-up / discharge.  As well, a 1000 word self - assessment report identifying areas of strength and areas for further development must be completed.
