Research in Culture & the Creative Industries

Research in the Centre for Culture and the Creative Industries is as wide-ranging as it is renowned.  We have a world-class reputation for our critical research into the cultural sector and commercial activities of the creative industries.  We have particular specialisms in cultural labour and work; cultural policy and inequalities; globalisation and the creative industries; digital media and new technologies; identity and cultural studies; and the political economy of the creative industries.

Our research is critical, analytical and often intentionally interventionist.  It intends to make a difference to the development and practice of current cultural discourse and institutions and our research is often targeted at, or commissioned by, public bodies. Staff have worked as consultants or advisors for range of international organisations, including the Greater London Authority (GLA), UNESCO, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the World Intellectual Property Association (WIPO), the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), Save the Children and the British Council, among others. We have produced a wide range of books, reports and articles, and our academics work for a variety of editorial boards and journals.

We have a large and eclectic community of doctoral scholars, with around 20 students presently registered. This very international cohort provides a truly global outlook on current research in the cultural and creative industries, as well as providing a vibrant and stimulating environment for study.
