The City Law School Library (Northampton Square)

The City Law School has two dedicated law libraries. The City Law School Library (Northampton Square), located in the Innovation Centre, supports undergraduate and postgraduate academic study.  It offers printed resources, study spaces and computer facilities over two floors.

The City Law School Library (Gray's Inn Place) primarily supports students on professional programmes.

Study spaces

The Library offers spaces for individual study across two floors.In addition there is a Group Study room available on Level 2 for those wishing to work collaboratively with colleagues. This can be booked online.


A team of professional staff are available to assist you with sourcing legal materials, researching the law and answering your queries.

The Service Desk is located by the entrance; you may borrow and return library items here as well as at our self-service counter on Level 1.

Staff will also be happy to assist you to collect a requested or Inter-Library Loan item or support you in managing your account.


The Lawbore Lab on Level 2 provides access to networked computers as well as scanning facilities.

WiFi and wireless printing is available throughout the library and there is a charging cabinet on Level 1.

Photocopying and printing

Multi-Function Devices for photocopying, printing and scanning are located on both floors of the library.

All students have a unified account for printing and photocopying. This can be topped up online.

Accessibility at the City Law School Library (Northampton Square)

Library users who would like to make use of any of the services identified in this guide should first contact Disability Services or the Dyslexia Support team who will make a referral and provide us with an initial assessment of your requirements.  Your local library site representative will then be able to put the necessary arrangements in place for you.

Emergency evacuation

Where appropriate users should familiarise themselves with their Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan and be aware which is their closest refuge point when using the library. There are clearly labelled refuge points outside the Library. Users requiring mobility assistance will be directed to a refuge point by a member of staff and should wait at one of these points. Library staff will alert the emergency services who will ensure safe exit from the building.


The Library can be accessed from street level either through the Rhind Building entrance or the Innovation Centre entrance on Whiskin Street. The library is located on the 1st floor of the Innovation Centre which can be accessed by lift. Users requiring step free access to the 2nd floor can arrange for swipe access via Learning Success or the site representative.
