Counselling and mental health support

The Student Counselling & Mental Health Service is comprised of two teams offering confidential psychological and practical support. We work collaboratively within the Multidisciplinary team to provide you with the best possible support, enabling you to manage your wellbeing and academic studies and get the most out of your time at university. This may include:

  • An initial consultation or E-consultation
  • Specialist mental health advice, reasonable adjustments and mentoring
  • Group therapy
  • Brief individual psychodynamic and cognitive behaviour therapy
  • Psychoeducational workshops
  • Self-help material

The support offered compliments but is not a replacement for specialist NHS services and treatment so, it is essential that you register with a G.P. local to your term time address unless there is a specific reason not to do so.

You can also speak to a professional counsellor about any problems you may be facing. Counselling is free to current City students, and all sessions are completely confidential. You can book a counselling session through our Student Counselling Service, or you can visit the daily drop-in session between 13:00 and 14:00.
