Human rights law is a pervasive subject, particularly as UK legislation needs to be compatible with the European Convention on Human Rights. For those with an interest in fundamental rights, this thought-provoking course is ideal.
This introductory short course in Human Rights Law provides an excellent overview of the specific human rights and the rights and obligations that the state and individuals have.
The course is taught by a professional lawyer at our central London location, and includes debate and discussion of relevant issues.
Students on this Human Rights Law short course are given cases from various areas of law including family, criminal, refugee and employment law within which human rights articles have been invoked.
Lively discussions are held on current issues concerning human rights, e.g. the application of the law to suspected terrorists, or the exercise of freedom of expression concerning articles that may appear obscene.
The main topics covered are the treatment of aliens, the right to life, ill-treatment, liberty and security, fair hearing, privacy, freedom of expression, freedom of association, discrimination and terrorism law.
