This is the second course on Food Systems run by The Centre for Food Policy at the University of Reading.
Aimed at all those in the food sector, including government, industry, NGOs, charities and educational institutions, this course is designed to put you at the forefront of food systems thinking. This course comprises a combination of lecture and workshop style teaching. IFSTAL's method of teaching brings together diverse actors within the food system to work together on challenges through the application of systems methodology.
Following on from ‘Understanding Food Systems, this second day-long course will address ways of intervening in complex adaptive food systems. This course will introduce different approaches to multilevel change in the food system and identify key skills and tools for implementing change. You will work in multi-sector groups developing the communication and analysis skills you will need to be a food systems thinker.

Drawing on the most up to date knowledge on food systems, you will also have the opportunity to share your experience and knowledge with a diverse range of other professionals and work together in applying the methods taught. You will enhance your network and learn from other professionals, acquire the knowledge and skills for collaboration to enact change and learn to use the tools that create impact in your organisation and beyond.

Basic understanding of food systems is preferable, see Course 1 ‘Understanding Food Systems’.
Some experience working in the food sector desirable.
Applicants must be proficient in spoken and written English.
This course combines presentations from the course tutors and guest speaker(s) with active learning and group work. There is no formal assessment but participants will be asked to contribute to small group exercises and activities and feedback their work to the larger group.
Recommended readings will be sent before the course takes place.
