This course will cover basic statistical principles such as distribution curves, probability, and research design. It is aimed at people who want a gentle introduction or refresher to the world of stats so that they can apply these better in their workplace or understanding academic papers and presentations more fully. The course will be workshop based and customised according to the participants.
By the end of the day you will have a good grasp of what data can look like; how to recognise research designs; what p values mean; and how to describe data.
We will not cover statistical analysis in this half day.
It is an ideal half day course for health or education professionals who know they need to refresh their knowledge in this area but are slightly under confident about doing a statistics course!
You should be a public sector or healthcare professional with a C+ (4+) grade in GCSE maths and an interest in reading the evidence base / research.
This course is not for you if you already have a grasp of p values and normal distributions. Look out for other courses Nikki will be running for the next level of confidence.
Applicants must be proficient in spoken and written English.
Teaching will be a workshop format with exercises. There is no formal assessment but an online self-test will be available for participants to gauge improvement.
