Course overview

The managing change module is structured to provide you with a holistic understanding of the principles and practices of change management in healthcare environments. The module provides a fundamental knowledge of the theoretical concepts and models underpinning change management. Equipped with this, you will be encouraged to critically evaluate and apply these concepts to a range of health services settings at strategic, organisational and individual levels.

On completion of the module, you will have acquired a broad knowledge base that allows you to understand, participate in and manage change in healthcare organisations.

The module aims to:

  • Help you to understand and critically evaluate the motives and drivers on which organisational change is predicated
  • Equip you with an overview and understanding of the theories and concepts which are the basis of successful management of organisational change
  • Allow you to think reflectively about your own ability to tolerate and manage change
  • Enable you to critical evaluate espoused theories and models and thereafter to construct change strategies within the limitations of such theories and models
  • Allow you to reconcile the hard pragmatics of change with the softer human skills required for successful and sustainable change.
