What is Clearing?

Clearing is a process that allows you to find a place at City if you want to enrol in an undergraduate programme in the UK this September.

You can use Clearing if:

  • you are applying after 30th June
  • you have applied through UCAS and have received your exam results, but these don’t meet the conditions of your offers
  • you are not currently holding any offers from other universities.

If you already have your results, you can apply through Clearing now and do not have to wait until the general UK A-level results day on the 15th August. If you are yet to receive your results, you can still register to receive more information and updates from us.

Applying for your course

Once you have received your results, you can call our Clearing hotline number +44 (0)20 7040 8877 (open 09:00 - 16:30 BST, Monday - Friday). Our Admissions team will discuss your options of available courses depending on your grades and your intended areas of study.

Remember to have the following information handy when you call:

  • Your UCAS personal ID number (if you have one)
  • Details of your qualifications, including the qualification type, the subjects studied and the grades achieved
  • The name of the course you are interested in
  • Your UCAS history (i.e. if you have applied to university before or if you have received offers from other universities)
  • Your fee status (i.e. whether you are a home, EU or overseas student)
  • Your contact telephone number and email address.

With this information we can advise you on whether your qualifications are suitable for the chosen programme(s).

Confirming your place

If you are interested in a course at City, you should ring the Clearing hotline and discuss your qualifications with the relevant Admissions Officer. If you have received an indication that you meet the conditions of the requirements for the course, you should request the Admissions Officer to send you confirmation of this via email. Once you have this recognition, you can then apply to City in Clearing.

To make City your Clearing choice, go to the 'Your choices' section of UCAS Track and click 'Add Clearing choice', then enter the details of the course. Our UCAS Institutional code is C60.

Once you have updated your Clearing choice, our Admissions team will need to verify the information you provided at the point of verbal offer. Once we have verified your details, we will then confirm your place.

Your offer will then show as accepted on Track and you will receive a confirmation email from UCAS. Please note that you should only add a course to Track if you are willing to accept the offer.

What is Adjustment?

The Adjustment process enables you to reconsider where and what to study if your results are better than expected. Whereas Clearing is open to you if you don't hold offers or haven't achieved the grades required in your offer, Adjustment is available to you if you have met and exceeded your offer conditions and now wish to study elsewhere. Adjustment opens on 15th August (A-level results day in the UK) and runs until 31st August.
