Study at City

International Clearing information - applying as an overseas student

If you're an overseas student who has applied to study in the UK and you didn't get the course you wanted on results day, don't panic - we're here to help. Vacancies for September 2018 may still be available at City through Clearing.

Clearing is the name given to the last stage of the undergraduate cycle and is your opportunity to find a place at university. If you already have your results, you do not have to wait until the general UK A-level results day to apply through Clearing.

How does Clearing work?

Clearing allows you to find a place at City if you want to enrol in an undergraduate programme in the UK. It applies if your exam results didn't go to plan, or if you are applying after 30th June.

You are eligible to apply through Clearing if:

  • you are an overseas student
  • you have applied through UCAS and have received your results
  • you are not currently holding any offers from other universities.

The following information will take you through the steps you should follow in order to apply to City through Clearing.

Finding your course

If City is an institution outside of your original UCAS choices, it's important to make sure you learn about the courses we offer. Look for detailed information about course content, structure and the modules available.

It's always wise to do some research about the university itself too. Take a look around our website to learn about life at City and the experience of studying in London.

Applying for your course

Once you have made a shortlist of courses you are interested in and have received your results, you can then call our Clearing hotline. Our Admissions team will discuss your options of available courses depending on your exam results and your areas of interest.

Remember to have the following information handy:

  • Your UCAS personal ID number (if you have one)
  • Details of your qualifications, including the qualification type, the subjects studied and the grades achieved
  • The name of the course you are interested in
  • Your UCAS history (i.e. if you have applied to university before or if you have received offers from other universities)
  • Your fee status (i.e. whether you are a home, EU or overseas student)
  • Your contact telephone number and email address.

With this information we can advise you on whether your qualifications are suitable for the chosen programme(s).

Confirming your place

If you are interested in a course at City, you should ring the Clearing hotline and discuss your qualifications with the relevant Admissions Officer. If you have received an indication that you meet the conditions of the requirements for the course, you should request the Admissions Officer sends you confirmation of this via email. Once you have this recognition, you can then apply to City in Clearing.

To make City your Clearing choice, go to the 'Your choices' section of UCAS Track and click 'Add Clearing choice', then enter the details of the course. Our UCAS Institutional code is C60.

Once you have updated your Clearing choice, our Admissions team will need to verify the information you provided at the point of verbal offer. Once we have verified your details, we will then confirm your place.

Your offer will then show as accepted on Track and you will receive a confirmation email from UCAS. Please note that you should only add a course to Track if you are willing to accept the offer.

What is Adjustment?

You may have heard both Clearing and Adjustment being mentioned during the exam results period. Whereas Clearing is open to students, including overseas, who do not have university offers, Adjustment is applicable for students who do have offers, have either met and exceeded their offer conditions and now wish to study elsewhere. Adjustment opens on A-level results day in the UK and runs until 31st August.
