Calculators in Exams
If you would like to use a calculator in an exam at City please read below.
City, University of London students are only permitted to use the following non-programmable calculators:
- Casio FX-83 GT+
- Casio FX-85 GT+
- Casio FX-83 MS
- Casio FX-83 ES
- Casio FX-85 MS
- Casio FX-85 ES.
All students must ensure they use only the calculator models shown above.
If you arrive with any other model you will not be allowed to use it in your examination. No exceptions will be made, even if your calculator is of a lower specification. We are not able to lend calculators to students.
Please note that students are not allowed to keep formulae in the calculators. At the start of an exam invigilators will check that all calculators' memory is cleared.
Permitted calculators can be purchased for under £10 from the Student Union Shop and national retailers.
The calculator regulation was introduced to ensure that some students do not have an advantage over others because they have a more advanced calculator. The reason we cannot accept calculators of lower specifications than the models specified above is because of the huge number of different models available, and our exam invigilators can not be expected to be able to judge which models are of equal standing.
