Sport and Leisure

Individual sports

If your interest is in individual sports and you would like to represent City as an individual or on an elite stage, the Sport and Leisure Services Team can offer support with competition entry, travel costs and possible coaching advice.

You will need to present any qualifications, competition records and relevant UK or International rankings (if applicable).

City's individual athletes 2017/18

During the 2017/18 season City Sports & Leisure Services supported the following athletes in their chosen sports.

Athletics

Georgia Nwawulor has been representing City University London in High Jump throughout her studies. After competing in the BUCS Outdoor Championships in her first year, Georgia switched to the Indoor championships held at the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield. With an impressive jump of 1.67m Georgia claimed the Bronze medal, a feat she repeated again in the 2014-15 season.

Georgia was also the recipient of the prestigious Sports Woman of the year award in 2013-14.

We also have a cross country star. Laura Anderson represented the university in the BUCS Cross Country Championships 2015.

Clay Pigeon Shooting

City University London supported students Christoforos Konstantinidis and Zak Moussa who, in their first time representing City, achieved 69th and 186th place respectively out of a total of 341 athletes competing at the BUCS Clay Pigeon Shooting Championships back in December.

Cycling

City’s Daniel Payne headed Cheshire in October 2014 to represent the university for the first time in one of the toughest events on the BUCS Cycling calendar, the BUCS Curbar Gap Hill Climb. In a race that sees competitors compete in a gruelling 2km race, which gains over 170m in altitude with an average 7% gradient, Daniel impressed with a very respectable time of 6min 54 sec, placing him 119 out of 239.

Equestrian

City's Ludvig Svennerstal earned himself a place in the National Championship in Equestrian

After securing a first place spot in the individual Qualifiers held in Brooksbury College in March, City''s Ludvig Svennerstal earned himself a place in the National Championship finals held in June.

Ludvig travelled to Bishop Burton where he made the final day of competition, however had to withdraw due to an international country representation qualifying event which fell on the same day.

Fencing

As well as being part of the promotion winning Men’s Fencing team in the 2014-15 season, 1st year student Jordon Tam also headed to the BUCS Nationals at Pond’s Forge, Sheffield in February, where he placed a very respectable 25th out of 149, representing City University London in the Men’s Foil competition.

Judo

Judo is an individual sport at City

First year student Zulfukar Ablikim represented City University London in the BUCS Individual Judo championships at Ponds Forge, Sheffield in February this year.

Competing in the 60Kg KYU grade, Zulfukar impressed, taking the Gold medal in his first attempt in the competition.

Sailing

In City University London’s first ever entry into the BUCS Sailing programme, first year student Axel Enbland entered the Fleet Racing Laser championships in November 2014.

Swimming

Thomas Hall and Fraser Peh represented City in both the Short and Long Course Swimming Championships held at Pond’s Forge, Sheffield in the BUCS 2014-15 calendar. Thomas competed in all four Swimming disciplines in both events, with Fraser representing in both the Butterfly and Freestyle.
