This scholarship has been set up in memory of the late Stephen Knafler QC who was an exceptional barrister known for his work in the forefront of the protection of the rights of migrants and vulnerable asylum seekers in the UK.
The scholarship, which is funded by Stephen’s friends, family and colleagues will cover the full tuition fees for any of the BVS courses and a small maintenance bursary. It is designated to support a student who has held refugee or asylum status in the UK and intends to practice at the Bar of England and Wales.
Criteria:
- You must hold an offer for the full-time course on one of the following bar courses: BVS Postgraduate Diploma, BVS
- Postgraduate Diploma with Specialism or BVS LLM
- A refugee or asylum seeker to the UK – we will also consider applications from the child of a refugee
- Financial hardship.
Applications are open now. To apply you must hold an offer for the full time BVS. We plan to award the scholarship in June 2023.
The name of the scholarship recipient and their course title will be shared with the donor.
The recipient will be required to submit a one page annual report at the end of the academic year which will be sent to the donor.
The recipient may be asked to provide a testimonial on the impact the scholarship has made.
