Students who have been offered a place on the MA Global Financial Journalism can apply for a scholarship funded by the Marjorie Deane Financial Journalism Foundation.
The Marjorie Deane Financial Journalism Foundation was founded in 1998 by Marjorie Deane (1914-2008), a financial journalist who worked at The Economist.
The Foundation supports students undertaking postgraduate Financial Journalism degrees at City, University of London and New York University.
There are two full fee scholarships available to City students who have been offered a place on the MA Global Financial Journalism course (1 x home student, 1 x international student).
Criteria
Applicants must have a confirmed offer on the MA Global Financial Journalism course and be able to demonstrate financial need.
How to apply
Please submit the following:
- A covering letter explaining why you want to pursue a career in financial and business journalism, and why you need financial support to enrol on the MA Global Financial Journalism programme.
- A CV outlining your background, education, and achievements.
- A research proposal of no more than 500 words, examining an important topic in business, financial or economic journalism, and explaining how you would approach it.

Please do not apply for the scholarship before you have been offered a place on the course for 24/25 academic year entry.
Application deadlines:
- Monday 6 May 2024 for international students
- Monday 3 June 2024 for home students.
Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed.
Additional Information
The name of the scholarship recipients will be shared with the donor.
The recipients will be required to submit a one page annual report at the end of the academic year which will be sent to the donor.
The recipients may be asked to provide a testimonial on the impact the scholarship has made.
