    • Our applied detailed understanding of Autonomous Systems underpins our systems approach to Mission Analysis Design and subsequent Systems Engineering of space vehicles and ground support.

    Teaching and assessment

    • The MSc course will be taught full-time over one calendar year from September to September.
    • The taught part of the course comprises 8 compulsory modules; four modules will be delivered in the Autumn Term (September to December) and four modules will be delivered in the Spring Term (January to April).
    • Modules will be of 10 weeks duration and will comprise tradition teaching, tutorials, and laboratory (where appropriate).
    • Our laboratory sessions concentrate on extensive use of immersive simulation using NASA’s General Mission Analysis Tool (GMAT) and MATLAB with a Space Module to emulate real space missions to test plans and designs. The laboratory sessions are designed to encourage team-work to prepare you for future employment.
    • The Summer Term (May to September) is dedicated to individual projects as part of a dissertation submission. Topics for Projects will be offered by the university with some industry involvement.
    • Formal examinations will be set for January and May.
    • This unique MSc is taught in collaboration with The City Law School.

    Scholarships worth £2,000 are offered to outstanding postgraduate students, who are applying for a course in Computer Science or Engineering. You do not need to make a separate application. You will be automatically considered based on your master’s programme application form with your personal statement, and your supporting documents.

    Career

    The course aims to provide an introductory advanced qualification for entry into the space sector. The existing sector is growing at 10% to 20% each year with many more countries planning to enter space operations, thus, the number of vacancies currently exceed the supply of suitably qualified applicants.

    The course is also designed to offer existing employees in the sector the opportunity to enhance their careers to middle technology/management positions and beyond by gaining additional knowledge to add to experience.

    For those interested in space science encompassing astrophysics and astronomy, the course will provide excellent supporting study in the enabling space technologies.

    The MSc Course will prepare you for a substantial number of roles in the Space Sector, including:

    This course is subject to university approval for 2023 entry.

    You will be expected to submit the following:

    • For all applicants, please upload your degree certificate and transcript of marks from your first degree (if you do not have your final results at the time of making your application, please upload a provisional certificate/interim transcript of marks). A transcript is required in order to have your application processed.
    • If your first language is not English, or you require a Student Visa to study in the UK, please upload a Proof of English Proficiency if you have already obtained it. A list of accepted qualifications can be found on our entry requirements page.
    • Please upload a detailed personal statement (c800-1200 words) outlining why you wish to study this specific course, at City, University of London, as well as explaining how your past studies have prepared you for this course and how it will help you to progress in your career.
