    • Data Journalism (15 credits)

This module introduces data journalism skills, with a focus on getting and telling original stories from datasets. There's a strong focus on getting the data before preparing it for visualisation as part of the story-telling process.

    • UK Media Law (15 credits)

You will learn the most important parts of UK law that affect journalism, and how to apply them. We will look at (amongst others) defamation, privacy and data protection, contempt of court, reporting restrictions, and copyright.

    • Multimedia Storytelling (15 credits)

In this module you will use more advanced techniques to produce journalistic multimedia in current and emerging formats. You will engage with new types of audio-visual platforms to convey your narrative messages.

    Elective modules

Building on the learning from Social, Community and Management Media this module centres on the role of audience development and engagement.

    Dissertation

    • Final Project (30 credits)

Covering a topic of your choice you will produce a longform piece of journalism, appropriate to your pathway, that will demonstrate your newsgathering, research, interview, writing, technical and presentational skills. You will be taught through one to one supervisions.

    Programme specification

The programme specification contains more information on how the course is organised, the requirements for progression for each part and credits required for awards.

If you are unable to find your country equivalents in the above list, City will consider other international qualifications on a case by case basis.

For further details, please contact us using the contact details at the bottom of this page.

    English language requirements

If you're a national of a recognised majority English-speaking country as defined by the government, or have previously completed a university degree (or equivalent) in one, you will not need to prove your knowledge of English to apply for the course.

Please note that if your country is not defined as majority-English-speaking by the government you will need to demonstrate you meet the English language requirements for the course.

This course requires the equivalent of an IELTS academic test with an overall score of 7.0 with no less than 7.0 in the writing subtest and no less than 6.5 in any other subtest.

We will also accept an equivalent score in any of the tests listed under the English language requirements section.

You must have completed the qualification no more than two years prior to the start of the course.

Know that this list is exhaustive and as such we are unable to accept any qualifications or evidence outside of this.

Please note that the scores stated at the link above are lower than those you would need to meet for entry to the course.

Contact the admissions team if you have any questions about qualification equivalencies.

    English language programmes

Don't meet the English language requirements? INTO City, University of London offers English language programmes to help prepare you for study at university. These intensive and flexible courses are designed to improve your English ability for entry to degree courses.
