The Contraception for HCA's will cover the following
- The menstrual cycle (to give an insight into how the pill works)

- Observations required related to named contraception
- Enabling self-swabbing in relation to asymptomatic women.
This contraception course will give the HCA an overall understanding of the contraceptive pill and contraceptive injection (such as Depo-Provera), as well as relevant considerations for women.

This contraception course is for Health Care Assistants who have an interest in contraception and sexual health care and want to assist trained staff who give this care.

What will I learn?
After this study day the HCA will be able to:
- Understand how to collect urine and correctly conduct a pregnancy test at the appropriate time to ensure an accurate result
- Understand the menstrual cycle in relation to contraception methods and how they work
- Be enabled to collect information from a woman to give to a practitioner to enable them to make diagnosis and give appropriate treatment in relation to contraception
- Have an understanding of the issues related to collecting a sample from an asymptomatic patient for basic screening in a practice setting.
Please note that this day does not enable HCAs to work alone to conduct pill checks, conduct sexual health screening or give contraception injections to patients.

Teaching
There will be a range of teaching styles used on the day These will include PowerPoint, scenarios, group work/discussion, storytelling and student interaction.
