English requirements

If you have a conditional offer relating to an English language test, the minimum requirement for your programme can be found under the 'English Requirements' tab on the course webpage.

If you have an English language qualification below the minimum entry requirement, you may be able to gain a conditional admission, which will be converted to an unconditional offer of admission if you demonstrate you have achieved the required English language score before the academic year begins. Your options for improving your English language score include:

  • enrolling in one of the pre-sessional English courses offered by INTO - an approved City, University of London partner
  • enrolling in an English course in your home country
  • improving your English through self-study, and independently re-sitting the English language test at your local testing centre in order to obtain the required mark.

Please note that due to UK Visa and Immigration rules, we cannot accept the TOEFL test any more. Please refer to our full list of tests which comply with Tier 4 visa rules.

If you enrol in the INTO/City pre-sessional English course, you will need to achieve a mark comparable to the minimum IELTS score required for your programme at the end of the course. Your test scores will be automatically sent to City.
