Your motivations, drivers and challenges

What was your main motivation to undertake postgraduate study?

After finishing my two bachelor’s degrees in English Literature and Film at the University of Vienna and Theatre and Media Studies at the University of Chicago, I wanted to deepen my knowledge in the field of Media. This is why I've decided to undertake a master’s degree in Media and Communications at City.

What were the factors that influenced your decision making when considering postgraduate study?

I wanted to pursue postgraduate study for personal interest and to develop my knowledge in the field.

What were, if any, the main challenges that affected your decision about postgraduate study? How did you overcome them?

Since I already had experience of studying abroad, I wasn’t sure whether it was a good idea to move to London. Now after living here for half a year I am more than happy with my decision. I fell in love with London and its vibrant neighborhoods, people and culture.

Why did you choose City? What made you decide City was the right university for you?

When I've heard that City offers one of the best Media and Communication courses in London my decision was clear. I was beyond happy to hear that I got accepted into the course.

Your student experience

What has been your student experience at City so far?

My student experience at City so far has been highly positive. I did not expect to get along so well with the people in my course. It is as if we have known each other forever. In addition, every time I had a problem someone at City was able to help me. Whether it was the Students’ Union, the university nurse, counselling or a career advisor – students really get all the help they need.

How studying a postgraduate degree has helped you develop personally and professionally?

I now have a deeper understanding of media and communications and current changes in the media environment. I believe the course has given me the necessary confidence and knowledge to excel in this sector.

What skills and knowledge do you think the course has helped you develop?

The course helped me to have an in-depth understanding of contemporary issues, changes, and recent developments in media and communications.

What opportunities and experiences City has offered you during your course?

I really enjoy the career events that take place at City. Through these, I’ve had the opportunity to meet people from the industry and network.

Your future

What are your career plans once you have completed your postgraduate degree?

After my postgraduate degree I will apply for jobs at various broadcasting companies.

How do you think City has equipped you for the next stage in your career journey?

I believe that City has made me more confident. Not only because I know have a deeper knowledge of the media field, but also because there are several people who are there to help and guide you through the process.
