Usamah is a final year BSc Computer Science student. He had the opportunity to complete at 18 month placement during his course.

Why did you decide to apply to study at City, University of London?

I applied to City for a range of different reasons. My main reason was the course structure of Computer Science and how much you get to learn and experience. Also the Professional Pathway Scheme and Placement year were very successful and was one thing I really wanted to do. The placement team helped me greatly to find a placement.

What is your favourite thing about studying at City?

My favourite thing at City would be the resources provided to you, City has all the resources you need to achieve your degree level and the lecturers will hope you get there.

What kind of things are you involved in outside of your course?

I am involved in the City Islamic Society where we hold various events for all students, either lectures on Islam, meet and greets and football. I also enjoy the Charity Week of Islamic society as it enables us to raise money for a good cause and do something together such as climb mount Snowdon.

Have you had the opportunity to do any placements on your course?

I have had the opportunity to complete a 18 month placement at Allianz Global Corporate & Speciality. This was a great experience and I was aided greatly by the placement department to achieve this placement.

What do you plan to do after you graduate?

After I graduate I hope to gain a place on a Graduate Scheme within a company. Possibly under the roles of Business Analyst, Software Engineer or Software Tester.

What would be your top tip for our applicants?

My top tip for applicants would be to look deeply into each university you apply for and attend Applicant Days to get a feel of the university. You won’t be disappointed with the new City refurbishment as well – a lot of campus has been redeveloped and there are great student spaces.
