Tawna Mitchell

Postgrad Diploma
Tawna Mitchell

Tawna is a postgraduate student on City's MSc/PG Dip. Speech and Language Therapy course.

Why did you choose to study at City, University of London?

I heard that the course at City had a good reputation and that there was a big practical element to it.

What do you enjoy most about your course?

I really enjoyed studying a range of subjects after studying for an arts degree at undergraduate level. It was fascinating to revisit the sciences and to study some psychology.

What has been your favourite module and why?

My favourite modules were Hearing and Speech Sciences and Biomedical Sciences, for the reasons mentioned above. Additionally, as someone with an interest in languages, the phonetics part of the module was very interesting and Mark and Allen's teaching style made the lessons enjoyable.

What has been the highlight of your course so far?

  • Having the opportunity to learn about such a range of topics
  • During my final placement, the feeling that things were all drawing together and that my knowledge was consolidating, that I had grown more competent as a Speech and Language Therapist.

What do you plan to do after you graduate?

I will hopefully be beginning some private work as a Speech and Language Therapist gained through a tutoring agency and will completing my competencies with a private supervisor. I also intend to keep my tutoring work up alongside the Speech and Language Therapy and potentially find some work as a medical translator.
