Tanvi NarayanEconomics with Accounting BSc (Hons)
My degree is unique in a way because it gears you to think like an economist and do your numbers like an accountant
Why did you choose to study at City, University of London?Growing up, I lived in several countries and was raised in different cultures. So while choosing a university, a diverse learning environment was important to me. Being in the heart of London, and given its global academic excellence, City just seemed like the perfect choice for me and I couldn't wait to experience the exciting student life here!
What do you enjoy most about your course?I quite like the mix and match of economics and accounting modules on my course. I feel my degree is unique in a way because it gears you to think like an economist and do your numbers like an accountant.
What has been your favourite module and why?I enjoyed studying financial management in my final year. It was a highly interactive module; we had case studies, guest speakers and group presentations. The module was pretty intense, but the lecturer made it interesting and fun to learn by relating the studies with finance in the real world.
What has been a highlight of your course so far?Having the opportunity to take a year out to do a placement has definitely been the highlighting feature on my course. I did my industrial placement at Harrods in the Finance Business Analysts Division. While working, I have had the chance to put to practical use, what I learnt during my first and second years at City. I also found it easier to understand the final year modules since I could relate the studies with my industry experience. The best part is that I graduate with a BSc (Hons) with Integrated Professional Training. Couldn't have asked for anything better at the end of these four years!
What do you plan to do after you graduate?I have been working at FITCH Design as a Finance Intern in the London Studio. After my internship, I will be taking a take a year out to travel, explore and pursue my passion for sailing and surfing. I also have plans to do my master's degree in the near future.
Please let us know of anything else you would like to tell us about your time at the university
My journey so far at City has been wonderful! I have met some of the most amazing people in my life here, all coming from different parts of the world. I am glad that I could make my own little contribution to the school and course by being a programme representative for four years. I am also grateful for all the kindness, guidance and support from my personal tutor and all the staff here. Wherever I go, live and work, the years spent at City will always be memorable!
