Why did you decide to do a placement while at City, University of London?

  • Students with work experience are more likely to secure good position after graduation
  • Placement students are more likely to get 1st
  • Money is good.

Where was your placement and what was your role?

Merit Software is a small company with less than 10 employees. There is only one department which is responsible for carrying out all daily tasks of the company, thus everyone gets to work in every stage of software lifecycle. Working here provides a person with hands-on experience in many different areas of information technology. My role is called Information Technology Administrator, which involves a great variety of duties and responsibilities. I am the newest and youngest member of the team. However, I contribute in almost all every-day activities of the company such as developing new features, testing, bug fixing, client support, documentation. Once I was even involved in requirements engineering process when I participated in a phone conference with the stakeholders.

What has been the most important thing gained from your placement?

Workplace experience of C# and ASP.NET

What do you plan to do after graduating?

My graduation is 3 years from now, but once done... Web Apps maybe.
