Rafael Eduardo Lopes

Rafael is a MMath student who enjoys the international community of City, meeting with students and academics from across the world.

What is your course of study?

Mathematical Science with Finance and Economics BSc / MMath

Why did you choose to study at City, University of London?

City offered the best career prospects for me that reflected my aspirations. Through my research I was informed of their growing investments in research and infrastructure but also the range of their successful teaching staff.

What do you enjoy most about your course?

I most enjoy being involved with people from all around the world that have similar interests and ambitions with me. Together with the professors, I cannot but feel that we are all working towards something, helping each other to succeed ones goals.

What has been your favourite module and why?

My favourite module so far has been Programming, for it is an essential skill, required for various career paths in the financial industry.

What has been a highlight of your course so far?

One of the highlights of my course so far would definitely be the Speed Networking event organised by the Careers department. It gave me great insight on how City Alumni succeed in achieving a graduate placement and it was most inspiring but also encouraging.

What do you plan to do after you graduate?

My plan is to secure a graduate position in a major financial institution and combine it with a Masters Degree in Actuarial Science.
