Funmi Odusanya

Funmi Odusanya

Funmi Odusanya was awarded a Caterpillar Foundation Scholarship at the Annual Scholarships, Prizes and Bursaries Evening, January 2013.

We spoke to Funmi about her award in July 2013.

Why were you awarded the scholarship?

I was awarded the scholarship in recognition of academic excellence in part three of my studies.

How will the scholarship help you?

The award will assist to settle the loan obtained to finance my studies. The inclusion of the award in my CV from a reputable organisation as Caterpillar will make it look good as it will show that my hard work was recognised.

What do you enjoy most about your course?

I enjoy the group design module as this enables me to work with my peers and also I am able to develop skills such as being able to work in a collaborative manner, improve my communication skills as well as being able to share and develop ideas to tackle problems related to the set tasks.

I also enjoy the engineering science modules such as Thermodynamics, Mechatronics and Turbomachinery (just to name a few) as these give an in-depth knowledge of the working principles behind various mechanical equipments and also having lectures who are enthusiastic about teaching in these areas adds more interest to the engineering course itself.

What do you plan to do after you graduate?

I will continue my engineering career in a company called AMEC in September 2013, where I will join their graduate scheme as a Graduate Mechanical Engineer.
