Accounting and Finance
Ben Dharmanandan

Ben is a 4th year BSc Accounting and Finance student. He had the opportunity to undertake a placement at SAP which helped to define his career focus.

Why did you decide to study at Cass Business School?

The position of Cass in the league tables was a huge factor with regard to student satisfaction and teaching quality. The location of City was perfect for me as I wanted to remain at home in London, and also recruiters told me that Cass had a fantastic reputation, therefore I just had to apply!

Once you'd received offers from different universities how did you make your decision to choose City?

It was a no brainer for me, fantastic location, skilled teaching, and to have a reputation that would speak volumes on a CV was something I couldn't turn down!

What is your favourite thing about studying at City?

The location is perfect, there are many ways to get to City, and there are restaurants, gyms, parks, stations, event halls, and so much more, all within 15 minute walks from the university! Also I love the fact that as City/Cass students we get so many benefits like special invitations to events and exemptions from certain professional body certifications.

What kind of things are you involved in outside your course?

I am a Student Ambassador, part of some societies who meet up on campus, and have a great time with friends outside of university hours too! I live at home, about an hour journey from City, and it has not yet prevented me from enjoying university life.

Have you had the opportunity to do any placements as part of your course?

I was able to go out on a year long placement at SAP, which has been one of the best decisions I made, as it has cultivated my personality and defined my career focus.

What do you plan to do after you graduate?

After I graduate, I plan to complete my chartered accountancy qualification and pursue a career in the regulatory compliance sector within financial institutions. As a result of my placement year, I have had many offers from recruiters via LinkedIn in various sectors, therefore I hope to utilise my network and land a job that will propel me up the career ladder whilst enjoying what I do.

What would be your top tip for our applicants?

Be diligent. You're investing in yourself, and you are priceless, therefore, research and know what you want to do at university because you want the best for yourself! Don't be afraid to ask questions, everyone is here to learn. It's a cliché, but be yourself, you create your own success! Your story starts here at university, write a life that you will be proud of at The End.
