A degree from City, University of London helped open doors for Paul.

Land Securities

We own, develop and manage offices, shopping centres and retail parks in the UK. By meeting the needs of businesses and communities, we create long-term value for shareholders and opportunities for employees.

Paul's current role involves managing the energy, water and carbon for one of the largest property owners and developers in the UK. Paul manages a team of nine that includes three energy managers for London and Retail and a bureau of five billing analysts. The team have an annual expenditure of £23 million, managing all aspects of Energy and Carbon for Land Securities; from procurement to contracts and projects.

The energy market is complex but as the costs have increased, the need for experienced professional energy managers has increased. Transparency of corporate reporting has become very important as large businesses move to demonstrate sustainability through reducing carbon emissions.

In Paul's previous role, he was the Group Energy and Carbon Manager for Morrisons Supermarkets, which was very different to managing energy in a property business.

I have found that obtaining the MSc in Energy and Environmental Technology and Economics at City, University of London has helped further my career. The teaching staff are very well known and respected in the energy and engineering industry. A degree from City can help to open doors for new energy & carbon managers.
