Dr Sapphira Thorne
I joined City, University of London in 2017 as a postdoctoral researcher on an interdisciplinary ERC funded project, the Metacognition of Cognitive. I am a social cognitive psychologist focused on understanding how people construct, use, and think about categories, specifically social categories. I am particularly interested in how the construction of these categories lead to discrimination between groups and biases in cognition (e.g., memory and reasoning).
Other research interests:
I have very broad research interests which encompass numerous areas in Social and Cognitive Psychology, particularly, Categorisation and Concepts, Intergroup Discrimination, Contact Theory, Prototype Theory, Linguistic Relativity, Gender and Sexuality, Relationships, and Norm Theory.
