Awarded, in 2003, the degree of Doctor honoris causa by the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy, Sofia, Bulgaria, for “scientific achievements” in the field of structural engineering.

Received the “Fire Safety Award 2002" from the Association of Building Engineers for “outstanding service and valuable contribution to fire safety through research in the field of fire engineering and its application”.
