Project manager embraces fresh challenges with new design skills
My name is Patricia Edonya. I am a project manager for Team Nigeria UK, a football academy for talented young Nigerian players.
I enrolled on these short courses because I wanted to upskill in digital design.
City was an easy decision for me. As an established institution I was confident the courses would cover the subjects sufficiently and at an appropriate level.
I enjoyed developing new skills and being able to ask specific questions related to the projects that I was working on. This meant I could apply the skills I developed immediately.
I took three different courses and the two tutors who teach them, Helen Pummell and Pete Polanyk, were excellent. They always made sure that everyone understood what they were taught and if not, would take time to explain topics to students on an individual basis. Their teaching styles allowed students to achieve their specific goals.
I developed good relationships with fellow students and was able to share ideas and learn from them. I was also able to network and make useful contacts.
I have now been able to apply my knowledge of Photoshop and InDesign on several projects, such as creating artwork for flyers and invitations for Team Nigeria UK. I also continue to develop my knowledge of software packages.
Attending the courses has given me the confidence to take on responsibilities that I would have shied away from in the past. It has also given me the inspiration to continue to develop my computer skills.
I am currently enrolled on the Major Event Management course at City, which I hope will help me on my forthcoming projects with Team Nigeria UK.
