Italian Lawyers take on English Contract and Commercial Law at City

Legal English for Italian lawyers is an annual event that sees lawyers practising in Italy get to grips with the English legal system.

Every summer, City, University of London puts on a week-long programme of seminars and workshops that focus on contract and commercial law. The summer school is organized in conjunction with the Scuola Superiore Avvocatura in Rome and hosted by City Short Courses.

This year’s programme allowed Italian lawyers to delve deep into the English legal system and explore corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, and setting up a company. Each session incorporated real-life case studies.

Participants described the week as “A real learning curve but thoroughly enjoyable”. Some of the students are already looking forward to coming back next year.

At the end of the intense week of learning, the lawyers were treated to a reception and a certificate presentation.

Christine Kretschmer, the Course Director, said: “The programme is now in its 6th year and it was lovely to see so many familiar faces again.”  Preparations are already underway to offer intermediate and advanced courses in Legal English next year.
