Dr Kasun Dissanayake at forefront of COVID-19 fight in Sri Lanka
Dr Kasun Dissanayake, who completed his PhD in chemical sensors (Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering 2020), has been working at the Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology (SLINTEC) on the development of cost-effective COVID-19 diagnostic test kits which are fitted with gold nanoparticles and graphene-based strips or electrodes to detect viral antigen, and RT-LAMP PCR to detect viral ribonucleic acid (RNA).
The clinical sample testing which Dr Dissanayake and his team have been working on has been successful. The team is hoping to get the developed kit to be used in Sri Lankan COVID-19 testing centres.
This will help the Sri Lankan government to increase its testing capacity and reduce costs by up to 50%.
