Professor Paula Jarzabkowski named a Fellow of the Academy of Management

Cass Professor of Strategic Management recognised for impact and quality of research

Professor Paula Jarzabkowski, Professor of Strategic Management has been named as a Fellow of the Academy of Management – becoming one of just 10 academics from outside North America to be nominated for the prestigious position.

The Academy, a worldwide professional association for management and organisational scholars, currently has more than 18,500 members spanning 120 countries across the globe. It seeks to inspire management teaching and practices to enable a better world.

Professor Jarzabkowski was elected for the scientific quality and practical impact of her research, which takes a strategy-as-practice approach to some of the complex issues facing governments and organisations today, such as how to respond to the growing threat of disaster. The award also recognises her influence on early career scholars, having mentored, developed and supported young academics towards successful research careers as tenured faculty and professors.

Professor Jarzabkowski said she was proud to become the first ever Cass academic to be named as a Fellow.

“It’s a real honour to have this recognition from a leading academic society, with a large global membership,” she said.

“The Academy of Management runs the highest impact journals in my field – Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Journal, and Academy of Management Annals – and I am thrilled with the recognition of my work. It is also a chance to take part in further developing the work of the Academy internationally.

“I’m looking forward to helping promote good practice and progressing academia in the field, while enhancing Cass’s global standing as a leading business school.”

Professor Gianvito Lanzolla, Head of the Faculty of Management at Cass, said Professor Jarzabkowski’s appointment was highly deserved.

“To be selected as a Fellow from nearly 20,000 global members is a fantastic accolade, that Professor Jarzabkowski deserves for her devotion to developing the subject area.

“Not only is she a leading voice for policy change – as her work with the OECD High-Level Advisory Board for the Financial Management of Catastrophic Risk demonstrates – but she is also a constant inspiration to her mentees and early career peers.

“It is excellent news, both personally for Professor Jarzabkowski and for Cass.”
