City has been in partnership with NUAA since 2002 and last December signed a memorandum of understanding agreeing to continue partnership in education, research and innovation.

The donation was sent with a letter to President Professor Sir Paul Curran from Professor Nie Hong, President of NUAA.

Professor Hong said “I wish to take this opportunity to express my concern, solidarity and support to all of your staff, students and families to stay well and positive through tough times.

“Since the COVID-19 pandemic in China was brought under control, a new dawn has finally befallen the entire country after the long and strenuous battle against the virus.

“I certainly relate to what you are going through, and I deeply empathise with your feelings. Please take care of yourself and let us stand side by side.”

Professor Sir Paul Curran said “City is extremely grateful to NUAA for its kind donation of 1,000 facemasks. Such kind gestures show that in these challenging times we are not alone.

“The masks will be donated to NHS staff who now include many of our third-year Health Sciences students, our clinically-registered academic staff and further student and staff volunteers. We are very proud of them all.”
