Professor of Commercial and Maritime Law, Professor Jason Chuah, has been commissioned as an expert contributor to the Sustainable Shipping Guidance by the UN Global Compact in its Practical Guidance for the Sustainable Ocean Principles project.

In December 2018, the UN General Assembly renewed the mandate of the Global Compact Office and the UN office that supports the initiative in its Resolution "Towards global partnerships: A principle-based approach to enhanced cooperation between the United Nations and all relevant partners".

Sustainable Ocean Economy

The UN Global Compact is recognised in a number of other inter-governmental contexts, including the G8.

A High Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy was established in September 2018 to catalyze bold, pragmatic solutions for the future of ocean health and wealth.

A unique global initiative of 14 serving Heads of State, the High Level Panel is working with governments, businesses and expert stakeholders to develop a roadmap for rapidly transitioning to a sustainable ocean economy and to trigger, amplify and accelerate responsive action worldwide.
