In this time of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, City, University of London's City Interaction Lab recognises the strain that user experience teams are having to swiftly and safely adapt their web presence to keep up with ever shifting needs, especially in key sectors such as health charities, government departments and those supplying groceries and other essential supplies.

UXimagesCILthumbThe Lab also recognises that not all organisations will have the budget to engage freelancers to support them in addressing these challenges.

It is for this reason that between 30th March and 30th June 2020, the Interaction Lab will provide free support for up to two user research projects a month. These projects can take the form of expert reviews or remote moderated user testing.

Expert review

Please note that the City Interaction Lab will only support projects directly related to the Covid-19 outbreak, so providing important information, handling increase in demand etc.

It will not be supporting work regarding day-to-day business.

Projects will be run like any other piece of consultancy work, but the Interaction Lab will not be charging for its labour. Teams will still be required to pay for user recruitment and user incentives.

In order to be considered, business and organisations will need to answer 'Yes' to all of the following questions:

  • Is my organisation providing an essential public service?
  • Is the task directly related to Covid-19, and not business as usual?
  • Do I need an expert review or remote moderated user testing?
  • Do I lack the funds to engage a freelancer?
  • Are you based in the United Kingdom?

For anyone in need of support, please send an introductory e-mail to stuart.scott.2@city.ac.uk, explaining your situation and the support required.

If the City Interaction Lab receive more requests than it can handle it will ask whether anyone else in the user testing community is willing to help.
