Samuel Tavares Fernandez, (BEng Computer Systems Engineering), has been awarded the Dean’s Award for Professional Experience 2018.
Marking its third year, the Dean’s Award for Professional Experience was set up by the Professional Liaison Unit (PLU) and seeks to recognise students who have produced excellent work during their placement year.
Samuel, who has spent the last year as an analyst at Deloitte, was presented with the certificate by Professor Roger Crouch, Dean of the School of Mathematics, Computer Science & Engineering.
Samuel said: “I feel very proud to win this award. Having this kind of recognition shows that I am not just reading books or listening to talks, but I am learning with first-hand experience which is what companies look for in potential employees.
“As an analyst my job was to help the project team by contributing to internal initiatives, supporting clients and providing insights through data analysis.
“The last assignment I had at Deloitte was to create a business case with network architecture, which is a telecommunications structure. One of my modules is now about computer systems and networks, so I will be putting the work I did at Deloitte into practice during my last year at City!
“I was able to meet over 300 people during my year at Deloitte and have been offered a part time job while I am studying, so I am very grateful to everyone involved in this opportunity.”
Last year, the PLU placed 204 students from the School of Mathematics, Computer Science & Engineering across all schemes including, professional pathway, postgraduate and undergraduate internships.
