Laura Kuenssberg and Vince Cable speak to City journalism students
BBC political editor and Liberal Democrat leader join students during five-day course
The BBC political editor, Laura Kuenssberg, and the leader of the Liberal Democrats, Vince Cable, were among the high-profile figures to speak to City students during an intensive five-day politics course.
MA Broadcast Journalism students were also joined by Sarah Sands, editor of the Today programme on BBC Radio 4 and award-winning filmmaker Michael Cockerell as part of their Political Headlines module.
In addition to classes at City, students went on two trips to Westminster, where they met the leader of the Labour Party Jeremy Corbyn and visited the Speaker’s residence to hear from the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow. Several MPs also gave talks during the week and answered questions from students.
Other guest speakers to visit the university included Ann Treneman, the former Parliamentary sketch-writer for The Times.
The Political Headlines course is a key part of the MA journalism programme. It is run twice a year by Barney Jones, the former editor of The Andrew Marr Show and now a visiting professor in the Department of Journalism at City.
