City, University of London's Centre for Human-Computer Interaction Design (HCID) will host its annual Open Day on Friday 4th May.

The event begins at 10:30am and runs until 5:15pm.

Organised around the theme, 'Beyond the Screen', the Open Day will explore the design of non screen-based interactions - and look at technology that was once the stuff of science fiction which is now used everywhere on a daily basis. Visitors to the Open Day will be treated to talks and demos relating to robots, wearables and virtual reality (VR).

The Open Day will demonstrate how user experience (UX) thinking can be used for more than just screen interfaces.

Digital start-ups

Though the full complement of speakers will be finalised shortly, Dr Vinoba Vinayagamoorthy (BBC Research & Development), Professor Bill Gaver (Goldsmiths University); Professor Kristina Hook (Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden); and Dr Dave Ranyard (CEO, Dream Reality Interaction) are listed among the confirmed speakers.

The event is expected to attract over 200 UX professionals and digital start-up entrepreneurs.

Past keynotes speakers have come from Google, eBay, Ideo and Virgin Atlantic.
