Dr Eduardo Alonso is new Head of Computer Science
Dr Eduardo Alonso has become the Head of the Department of Computer Science in the School of Mathematics, Computer Science & Engineering (MCSE).
His appointment took effect from 1st July 2017.
The priorities of his management team are staff satisfaction and improving student progression, retention and employability. To this end, the Department is undergoing an ambitious review of its course offerings.
Dr Alonso said:
"We are also considering ways in which we can increase the number of doctoral students enrolled with us and enhance the quality of their experience. Our Department hosts five Research Centres carrying out high-impact research which guides our undergraduate and postgraduate offer."
Dr Alonso received his BSc and PhD in Philosophy from the University of the Basque Country.
He worked in the Artificial Intelligence Research Group at the University of York from 1996 before joining City in 2001 as a lecturer.
Since then, he has become a Reader in Computing and served as a member of the City Senate. He was Deputy Head under Professors Kevin Jones and Jo Wood before his appointment.
Dr Alonso's research is focused on Machine Learning, specifically in the computational modelling of adaptive complex systems, artificial and natural.
