Annual prize giving ceremony celebrates staff and student success

School of Health and Science event rewards the achievements of students and practice colleagues

The annual School of Health Sciences prize giving ceremony took place at the end of April recognising, celebrating and rewarding the achievements of students, and practice colleagues that provide excellent placements and support for our students.

At the event the School presented prizes to students, placement areas and mentors in the following categories:

  • Student Awards – students were nominated for academic, research and practice achievements for prizes by their relevant programme director, personal tutor or practice colleagues.
  • Placement of the Year Awards – students have nominated outstanding placements in nursing, midwifery, and speech and language for the Placement of the Year Awards. These awards are an opportunity for us to thank the excellent support and contribution of our practice colleagues.

Our long-standing strategic partnerships with Trusts, independent sector and associated professional bodies give our students placement experience with some of London and the South-East's leading healthcare providers. This event provided us with a special opportunity to give our placement partners the recognition they deserve as voted first-hand by our students.
  • Mentor of the Year Awards – this award category recognises the contribution of mentors and sign-off mentors. Students were invited to nominate excellent mentors that have provided support and contributed to their learning in practice.

Julie Attenborough, Associate Dean and Director of Undergraduate Studies and Workforce Development in the School of Health Sciences, said: “The School is made up of various divisions and it is this interprofessional approach that underlines our success as a world-leading centre for healthcare education and applied healthcare research. The awards highlight the excellent work that all staff and students put into their work, and it is great to see this rewarded.”
