City alumnus returns to campus to propose
Alumnus Vineet Patel (BSc Sociology and Economics, 2008) recently returned to City University London to propose to his girlfriend in the lecture theatre where they first met.
Vineet and his now-fiancée Jyoti Bhatia (BSc Economics and Accountancy, 2008) met whilst studying at City and returned to the campus in December under the pretext of attending an alumni event.
Vineet contacted Head of Alumni Services Sue Rees to help make arrangements. Sue said: "I am always happy to assist alumni, but one of my recent requests was rather special. Vineet contacted me to help him arrange access to the lecture theatre where he first met his girlfriend Jyoti. Having checked that the room was available, we arranged to meet Vineet in the afternoon so that he could write on the whiteboards and leave some flowers. He then returned with Jyoti, pretending that they were meeting friends nearby. As they passed the entrance to the block, Vineet led her inside for a quick trip down memory lane where he popped the question."
Sue added: "We were delighted that she said yes and felt privileged to be part of such an important moment."
Vineet said: "I wanted City to be a part of my proposal as it seemed fitting to take the next step together in the place where it all began. Returning to the University to propose brought back so many great memories and made the evening even more special."
